You’ve worked hard for 7 years and then your life is turned upside down during the pandemic
S was working in the UK for over 7 years and was supporting his family in Iraq. He went to visit them and unfortunately had a major stroke during the pandemic. By the time he had managed to get back after 2 years, he was unable to work and had to wait 3 months to pass his habitual residence test. During this period, he was on the streets and despite his medical condition, the statutory agencies were not helpful.
Our intervention ensured he received a weekly cultural food parcel and food voucher. We secured temporary accommodation with one of our contacts for 3 months and agreed to pay his rent and provided a small grant to buy clothing as the weather was cold and he needed winter clothing. After 2 months of intensive support, his benefits came through and we were able to withdraw the rent support as his housing benefit allowance paid for his rent. He still now receives food and voucher support from us as he is unable to work due to his health condition.
